Training Initiative for Young Migrants Launches in Saxony-Anhalt
Ready, Set, Train in Saxony-Anhalt!
With an astounding 5,400 apprenticeship positions sitting empty, companies in Saxony-Anhalt are eager to fill the void. As part of a broader state program, BRAFO, the state is shifting its focus towards career orientation and internships to attract a fresh wave of young talents.
Migrants aren't left out of this amazing opportunity. In fact, according to the Minister of Labor, Petra Grimm-Benne, the initiative aims to welcome young migrants to dual training in Saxony-Anhalt. The campaign is an integral part of a comprehensive training strategy, and it's set to kick off on June 26, 2025, in Magdeburg.
The 'Saxony-Anhalt is calling you!' campaign is a multilingual, culturally sensitive approach designed to resonate with potential immigrants. The strategy includes targeted outreach to 1,000 young people and their families, language promotion, training management, and individual support.
The training managers across the state will support up to 8,000 young people, and vocational language courses will strengthen language promotion and exam preparation. Programs like Supported Training (AsA) and the state program "Supported Training for Care Assistance" will help people with more difficult starting conditions to enter training and the job market.
"Migration youth should be provided with the best possible assistance on their path to a successful apprenticeship. The message is clear: Training is the best ticket into the workforce. The takeover rate in Saxony-Anhalt is at a record high compared to other states. Together with young migrants, we want to ensure that Saxony-Anhalt remains a land of apprenticeships, and companies get the urgently needed skilled labor," affirms Grimm-Benne.
Statistics show that the number of foreign trainees in Saxony-Anhalt is on the rise. While 240 out of 29,700 trainees were foreign in 2013, the number rose to 1,800 out of 26,350 in 2023, with the overall completion rate at 88%. Although foreign graduates had a lower completion rate at 79%, it's significantly increased from the previous year.
