UCLA Welcomes New Dean Michael Beckerman with Musical Celebration
The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music kicked off its 2025-26 academic year with a Fall welcome event on September 24th. The occasion marked the arrival of Michael Beckerman as the new dean, who was greeted with a performance of Leoš Janáček's Sinfonietta by a brass and percussion ensemble led by Travis J. Cross.
Beckerman, an acclaimed educator and musicologist, officially began his role as dean around October 1, 2025. He was introduced by Robert Fink, chair of the music industry program and interim dean prior to Beckerman's arrival. In his speech, Beckerman spoke about the school of music's community, highlighting unity in a love of music as its core strength.
