Unique surgical procedures were carried out on children in Karaganda, Kazakhstan, by a Moscow-based academic.

In the heart of Kazakhstan, a groundbreaking masterclass on minimally invasive pediatric coloproctology sparked a revolution. Top surgeons from Kazakhstan and Russia banded together to offer a glimmer of hope for kids battling severe gastrointestinal ailments. This extraordinary event was sponsored by the MUMKINDIK project, an initiative that merges charity and high technology to pull young patients across the nation from the shadows. News about this life-altering project was disseminated by the corporate fund "Zhuldyz".

This educational extravaganza unfolded at the KGP "Multidisciplinary Regional Children's Hospital" from April 21 to 25. The key authority figure behind this seminar was Professor Igor Kirgizov, renowned as the scientific director of pediatric surgery at the Central Clinical Hospital of the Presidential Administration of Russia, professor at RMAPO's pediatric surgery department, and chief expert at Roszdravnadzor.

Doctors from various regions of Kazakhstan witnessed intricate laparoscopy and video-assisted abdominal organ surgeries, attended lectures, and engaged in debates about clinical cases and patient management strategies. In total, 25 surgeons from cities like Astana and Petropavlovsk, and 37 pediatricians and gastroenterologists from Karaganda participated in this masterclass.

"This MUMKINDIK project masterclass facilitated complex surgical procedures, all of which were a success. Now, our local doctors can independently conduct such interventions," stated Igor Kirgizov.

The MUMKINDIK project played a vital role in providing genuine aid to children with grave gastrointestinal conditions: 11 surgeries were performed, and 18 children received free consultations from the foremost surgeon.

It's essential to acknowledge that high-end technology-driven medical interventions frequently come with a hefty price tag for families. For instance, in Russia, a single operation costs between 700,000 and 1,000,000 rubles, escalating to an additional 500,000 rubles for tests, transportation, and accommodations. In total, that amounts to approximately 6,000,000 tenge for one child. By means of the MUMKINDIK project, however, this chance at a healthy, normal life is granted to Kazakh children at no cost.

One heartfelt mother, whose child underwent surgery, shared:

"David was born lacking an anus. I considered overseas clinics in places like Germany, but the expenses were frightening. The minute I heard about the masterclass, I jumped at the opportunity. We had attempted to secure the operation twice before, but it didn't work out. I attribute that to fate—we were waiting for Igor Valentinovich. Thank you, on behalf of my child and me, to everyone who made this possible. My child is alive, and that's what truly matters."

The MUMKINDIK project has been shaping the lives of children since 2013 with the assistance of employees from the BI Group construction holding. Through consistent contributions and support, the organization manages to invite foreign specialists and cover related expenses for these high-tech operations. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, life-changing procedures were performed in Astana, Almaty, Aktobe, Taraz, Aktau, and now in Karaganda.
