University of Wisconsin Extension hires a new Youth Development Specialist

Mijal Altmann has recently been appointed as the new statewide youth development specialist at the University of Wyoming Extension Office, starting on June 16, 2025. With a master's degree in youth empowerment and civic engagement from the University of Pennsylvania, earned in 2024, Altmann brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new position.

Originally from Maryland, Altmann's career has taken her across the United States, including a stint as a graduate assistant at Stanford University, where she delved into educational trends, youth development, and social-emotional learning. Prior to that, she served as a head instructor at an outdoor leadership camp for five years.

In her new role, Altmann will be tasked with mentoring 4-H youth development educators across Wyoming, advising the state 4-H Youth Leadership Team, and leading the Extension Roots Internship Program. This program offers career development opportunities for Wyoming youth by providing them with hands-on experience at Extension offices statewide.

Altmann's role will also involve building community partnerships to support youth development initiatives and conducting research on the latest findings related to positive youth development. She believes in the power of planting seeds early in kids to help them become competent, independent, and confident members of their communities over time.

Altmann can be reached at (307) 766-5125 or [email protected]. She looks forward to expanding her horizons in Wyoming and making a positive impact on the lives of the state's youth.
