In an upcoming event on April 9, Park University will screen the documentary film *Big Sonia*, offering viewers a unique opportunity to learn about Sonia Warshawski, a Holocaust survivor living in the Kansas City area. This screening is part of the University's 2017-18 Year of Diversity series of events.
*Big Sonia* chronicles Warshawski's life as a Holocaust survivor and her subsequent experiences, emphasising themes of resilience, memory, and education. The documentary has received acclaim for its intimate portrayal of Warshawski's life and her dedication to Holocaust education.
The event, which will take place at 6 p.m. in the Jenkin and Barbara David Theater inside Alumni Hall on the University's Parkville Campus, will begin with a short performance by Ben Sayevich, professor of music/violin, and his wife, Lolita Lisovskaya-Sayevich, director of collaborative piano. Following the film screening, scheduled to begin at approximately 6:15 p.m., a panel discussion will take place at approximately 7:45 p.m., featuring Rabbi Doug Alpert, Brian Cowley, Ph.D., Park University professor of psychology, and Jennifer Tavernaro, an educational adviser on the film.

Meanwhile, Park University continues to garner recognition in various areas. More Park University degree programs have been ranked by various websites, and Lacey Finley, Ph.D., visiting assistant professor of management, was honoured by the National Business Education Association. Igor Khukhua, a violinist and graduate student in the International Center for Music, won first place in the strings division of the Naftzger Young Artists Competition.
Moreover, the Park Student Government Association is hosting its third annual 5K Run/Walk for Charity on April 21, with the race winding through the campus as well as the Parkville Commercial Underground. Applications are open for the 2018-19 Sour website Tank Innovation Grants at Park University's Faculty Center for Innovation, with applications due on April 30 and submissions to be made via the university's website.
In other news, two development projects involving Park University were awarded Capstone Awards by the Kansas City Business Journal. Furthermore, Amy Wolf, Ph.D., associate professor of education, was interviewed by KCTV in Kansas City for stories about active shooter response training for child care centers/providers.
Patrick Moon, former U.S. ambassador/chief of mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, was interviewed for stories on KMBZ-FM in Kansas City related to NATO-Russia relations and its impact on the U.S. Additionally, Corbett, a charter member of Park's Howard Bailey McAfee Heritage Society and former Alumni Association president, passed away on March 31 at the age of 100.
Lastly, Lora Zaidarhzauva, associate director of international recruitment, represented Park University at the NAFSA: Association of International Educators Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. Colleen (Mahoney) Scherman, '09, Park's first-ever NAIA All-American in women's volleyball, has been selected for Park Athletics Wall of Honor. Janis Murray, '80, was featured in a story on Fansided as the first woman ever to run the play-by-play camera for the NCAA men's basketball Final Four.
