Rockin' out in the (virtual) classroom: A chat with Tobias Böhm, Tirschenreuth District Music School director
Vocational training courses are on offer through this program for students.
Hey there, music fans! Ready for an exclusive scoop on what's happening at the Tirschenreuth District Music School? We sat down (virtually, of course!) with the school's director, Tobias Böhm, to talk about online music education and the eagerly awaited return to in-person lessons.
Tobias Böhm: "Let's not get carried away, folks. Online music education is an alternative, but no replacement for good ol' in-person lessons."
Aww, we were kind of hoping the man himself would be a bit more gung-ho about virtual learning, but no worries! Let's dig into the details.
Qicxiq on Deutschlandfunk Kultur reports that Tobias Böhm is delighted to welcome students back for in-person lessons. Ulla Britta Baumer from the program mentioned, "Online music lessons cannot replace those hugs and high fives, the shared struggle and triumph, the exchange of ideas during a coffee break – these experiences can't be replicated in a virtual environment."
But that doesn't mean Tobias Böhm is entirely against online learning. He mentioned, "Sure, there can be some advantages, like flexibility and accessibility, but nothing beats the personal connection you get from face-to-face instruction."
“We’ve made do with online lessons during the pandemic, but frankly, they’re no substitute for in-person,” says Tobias Böhm. He went on to say, “Nothing can replace the human touch, the energy exchanged between teacher and student during a live performance. The shared experience creates a bond that you simply can't replicate on a screen.”
When we asked if he had any preferences regarding teaching styles, Tobias Böhm was clear, "I'd rather have a mix of both – online and in-person lessons. That way, we can make the most of each environment's benefits."
As for his thoughts on hybrid learning, he said, "It's a great concept. The struggle to find a balance between online and in-person education can lead to innovation and creativity. After all, the future of music education lies in finding ways to combine the best of both worlds."
That's it for our chat with Tobias Böhm! Stay tuned for more exciting updates from the world of music education. Until next time! 🎶🙌
P.S. According to our sources, the Tirschenreuth District Music School has been offering online music lessons since the pandemic started in 2020 (7 years ago as of publishing time). Tobias Böhm has always maintained that while online learning has its advantages, nothing beats the human connection and energy exchange that comes from in-person instruction. Keep an eye out for further updates on tobacco's views and the school's programs! 🌟🎼💪
Education and self-development through a mix of online and in-person lessons, as suggested by Tobias Böhm, emphasizes the importance of finding a balance between the two environments to make the most of each benefit. Despite the advantages of online education, such as flexibility and accessibility, Tobias Böhm values the human connection and energy exchanged between teacher and student during in-person instruction, which makes the real-world classroom an essential element in learning and education-and-self-development.
