West-oriented Educational Centers in Bengal Announce Premature Summer Break Following Mamata Banerjee's Plea
Kolkata Schools Take Early Holidays Amid India-Pakistan Tensions
Amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan, several private schools in West Bengal have hurriedly declared summer vacations, heeding the call of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. St Xavier's Institution-Sodpure, Julien Day School, Delhi Public School Ruby Park, and other schools are among those moving forward with an early break.
Lipika Ghosh, Principal of St Xavier's Institution-Sodpure, explained, "Initially, we were scheduled to continue classes till May 13, but in light of the evolving situation and as suggested by the CM, we've brought the holiday start dates forward a few days." Similarly, a spokesperson for Julien Day School announced, "Our summer vacation dates have been accelerated from the initial plan of May 16 to May 9, due to the CM's instructions."
Delhi Public School Ruby Park will also take a month-long hiatus starting from this Friday, and La Martiniere School for Boys and Girls will switch to online classes from today until May 16. Some schools, like Lakshmipat Singhania Academy and B D Memorial International School-Narendrapur, had already set their last day of classes before the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent military conflict between India and Pakistan.
CM Banerjee urged private schools in the state to declare summer vacations from May 9, due to mounting tension following India's missile strikes on terror targets in Pakistan under 'Operation Sindoor' [1][2][5]. Although this was not mandatory, many schools have adhered to her request by adjusting their academic calendars.
Meanwhile, state-run and state-aided schools have already started their summer vacations from April 30 due to the excessive heat. In districts across West Bengal, several private schools have also decided to commence their summer breaks from Friday, following the developments that transpired after 'Operation Sindoor.'
