"Wide-ranging 'Tour Dementia' events grace the urban landscape"
On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the city of Bergisch Gladbach and the Regional Office for Age, Care, and Dementia Bergisches Land will host an action day dedicated to raising awareness about dementia. The event, which runs from September 15-27, will take place at the City Library at the Forum.
The action-packed day includes lectures, exhibitions, interactive activities, and information stands aimed at volunteers, relatives, and interested parties. Notable speakers include Senior Physician Meike Jacobsen from EVK Bergisch Gladbach, who will deliver a lecture titled "Dement - What Now?" at 10:00 AM. Claudia Freudenberger from the guardianship office of the city of Bergisch Gladbach will also speak, providing insights on legal representation options in dementia at 12:00 PM.
At 5:30-7:00 PM, Police Sergeant and Traffic Safety Advisor Nicole Sutschet will discuss the challenges of driving a car with dementia, offering advice for relatives and interested parties at the Volkshochschule (VHS), Buchmühlenstraße 12.
From 2:30 PM, a portrait photo exhibition titled "The Radiance of Age" will be on display on the Market Square City Center, featuring photos from the encounter centers of Caritas RheinBerg.
The event is in preparation for World Alzheimer's Day and includes a bicycle tour called "Tour Demenz" that stops in Bergisch Gladbach. The cycling group of the Regional Office Age, Care and Dementia Bergisches Land will arrive at the market square around 15:25 and will be welcomed by the First Deputy Mayor Anna Maria Scheerer and other representatives of the city and the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis before continuing after a break.
Additionally, visitors can engage in interactive activities and visit information stands from organisations such as the Contact Office Care Self-Help RBK, City Library, Guardianship Authority, Specialist Office Aging, Care Consultation Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, ADFC Rhein-Berg, and Radwerk (Caritas).
A highlight of the event is the 4:00 PM tour "With All Senses" at Villa Zanders, with Curator Maike Sturm. This special tour focuses on the encounter with selected artworks and a dance offer for people with and without dementia. Registration for this event is required by September 15, 2025.
Admission to all events is free, but registration is only required for the 4:00 PM offer "In sync with memory" at Villa Zanders by September 15, 2025. The action day is set to be an informative and engaging event for all those interested in learning more about dementia and supporting those affected by the condition.
