Workshop Explores 'Toxic Masculinity' and Gender Equality
A workshop on 'Toxic Masculinity' was held at the Bürgerzentrum Gahmen on September 26, 2025. Led by Mathias Gathof and Jana Müller, the event saw 16 participants explore societal norms and their influence on coexistence. The workshop delved into gender roles and power structures, aiming to promote greater equity. Participants discussed practical ways to challenge and overcome entrenched gender patterns. Men were encouraged to take an active role in this process. Key steps for change included openness, confronting one's own gender roles, and showing care. One notable observation was the contrast in responses to a task on strategies against sexual harassment. Women at the workshop readily named several strategies, while the men's flip chart remained blank. This highlighted the need for men to engage more deeply with these issues. The workshop, attended by 16 participants, was led by Mathias Gathof and Jana Müller. It sparked important conversations about toxic masculinity and gender equality. Regina Hunschock, director of the Bürgerzentrum Gahmen, plans to continue these discussions with new offers. The next project leader has not been announced.
