WSET Reopens in China, Launching New Shanghai Office

The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) has reopened its doors in mainland China after a year-long hiatus, launching a new office in Shanghai. The move expands WSET's global network and signals a commitment to the Chinese news market.

WSET's CEO Ian Harris expressed delight at resuming business in China, with plans to restart courses and exams following the Chinese New Year holiday period. The organization has appointed Willa Yang as chief representative to lead its operations in the country. Yang, who previously held leadership roles at Wine Australia's China office and the Australian Trade Commission, brings a wealth of experience to the role.

WSET's new Shanghai office will support its return to business, working closely with course providers and Chinese authorities. The trust has a history of over 15 years in China, empowering drinks professionals and enthusiasts through wine, spirits, and sake education. Despite the suspension, WSET has remained committed to the Chinese market, working diligently over the last 11 months to meet the requirements for resuming operations.

With the new Shanghai office and Yang at the helm, WSET is poised to capitalize on the growth potential of the wine and spirit category in China. The trust's return to mainland China, following government approval, is set to reinvigorate its educational offerings and further expand its global network.
